Should I buy a Quartz worktop?
Quartz has been oner of our most popular worktops for many years but the recent media coverage about the banning of high silica quartz worktops in Australia has led to questions about its safety.
We are happy to reassure all our customers that there is no risk at all to the end users, choosing quartz is still very much a safe choice.
The Worktop Fabricators Federation, (WWF) recently released a report that clarifies the issue and confirmed “There is no health risk to showroom staff, installers or consumers associated with specifying, handling, shipping, installing or using engineered stone worktops.”
The safety concerns in Australia are related to the fabrication process and the silica dust released but The WFF believes that while Australia’s ban addresses historical exposure risks, improvements in stone manufacturing have already reduced silica content in modern products. Manufacturers such as Cosentino are now using a new Hybriq+ technology which drastically reduces the content of crystalline silica to 10%, from an exclusive combination of premium minerals and recycled materials, such as glass.
We can also assure our customers that we only work with reputable fabricators that will operate automated cutting tools using state-of-the-art dust suppression, undertake regular health audits of their workers and hold detailed data sheets to prove the provenance of the materials they supply.
We offer a range of different worktop materials- you can find out more here and also have worktop samples in our showroom for those who would like to visit and find out more.
Why not make an appointment- we look forward to seeing you soon.
